Peanut Butter Rocks America!
Sweet
or salty, creamy and crunchy, light browned and delicious, it is the
most famous american food: PEANUT BUTTER. The homemade recipe is very
simple, after all it is just roasted peanuts, honey, salt and peanut oil
all crushed into a paste. It was patented by John Harvey Kellog -yes, the guy who created the Corn Flakes- and the scientist, George Washington Carver. In
the beginning it was a health food of the upper classes, but a few
years later it was introduced nationally by Beech-Nut and Heinz. Its
consumption in America -and also over the world- has been increasing
since then. Nowadays, American consumers eat more than 1.3 kg of peanut
butter per person each year. Furthermore, the last ranking of U.S.
sandwich food shows that the peanut butter sandwich is the second most
popular, only behind ham.
But
not everything is about boring data and history! There are also some
curiosities about peanut butter food...for example: have you ever heard
about Oreo cookies with peanut butter cream? Or peanut butter cereals?
Or even peanut butter hummus??? People swear that they are amazing,
though I am not sure if I would try some of them... However, there are
still people who prefer the classics like the peanut butter sandwich and
fortunately, I have GREAT news for them! There is a new shop in New
York City specializing just in peanut butter sandwiches called Peanut Butter & Co. -you can also find them in their homepage in internet.
I
have seen videos of the place and how they cook one their specialities
and, well, I must say that it looks AMAZING! They have even named one of
their sandwiches after Jerry Seinfeld -who appeared in the popular tv
serie Seinfeld- because
of his love for peanut butter and probably also for being a famous
customer. I wish now I could try peanut butter! I have never seen it
before in Spain, so...anyone wants to share some? ;)
